Look Up!

part of the City of Toronto’s Public Art programme, painted in July, 2018.

In our busy day-to-day city lives, we have become disconnected from nature and lost our sense of wonder for the Universe. We walk around looking at our phones, distracted by our thoughts, detached from our local environment. Look Up! with its bright and whimsical colours draws our attention away from our state of disconnection, and brings us back to being present within our local urban environment. Look Up! not only provides a colourful rendering of the planets in our night sky, but also reminds us to look into the sky, and invites us to re-connect with nature. As we pause for a moment, we have time to contemplate our human context and connection to the Universe.
